Why Can't The Yummy Stuff Be The Healthy Stuff

We always want to be healthy, why can't it be easy????

Aaron and I have been dieting for as long as we have known eat other.  It comes and goes in phases.  We've done South Beach, Low Carbs, No Carb, Vegetarian, Juicing, P90X.  Honestly, I think most of these things even worked.  South Beach, Low Carb, and No Carb all worked but we had low energy levels and it was hard to stick with.  Vegetarian failed miserably because 1.  We Love Meat and 2. We compensated with excessive carbs (the bad white flour, white sugar kind).  Juicing worked really well for Aaron, I tasted the juice, spit it out and that was the end for me.  Lastly P90x worked, but again low energy levels, and it was very expensive and difficult to eat as much protein as was required.  So Sunday at church we had a pot luck dinner during which we learned of the Eat to Live Diet.  Like most healthy things it is a lifestyle change.  What caught our attention was how in line it was with the Word of Wisdom.  Well I guess if the scriptures say this is the way to be healthy perhaps it's time we stop with the fad diets and give it a try.

Today was day 1.  Day one is always easier than day 2 when making a lifestyle change.  On day one you are excited and motivated.  Last night in anticipation I set all my goals, watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead to get myself super motivated, and set my alarm for 5:30 am so I could get to the gym and grocery store before breakfast.  I did hit snooze until 6:00 but then I got up and did what I set out to do.  10 mins into my workout at the gym I wanted to quit.  I haven't been to the gym in 3 months thanks to a very unpleasant case of plantar fasciitis.  But my feet had been feeling better for a few days so I thought I was ready.  10 mins into my workout and my right foot is cramping..... And the AC at the gym is not on (WHY?).  But then music came to my rescue and without even thinking about it I found myself completing my workout strong.  Then I was off to Market Basket.  Sorry if you went to Market Basket and they didn't have produce, because I bought it all.  I was home by 8:00 just in time to make breakfast.

So What did we eat today?  First I made JUICE, and it was so yummy!  I had 2 glasses it was so good.  I wonder why I hated it the first time we tried juicing.

Juice:  Granny Smith Apple, Pear, Peach, Orange, Kale, Spinach, Beet, Carrots, and Ground Flax Seed. (Ugly Color, Yummy Taste)

Breakfast:  Fruit Salad (Watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberries, grapes, strawberries, and kiwi), Almonds Sunflower Seeds and our homemade juice.

Lunch:  Salad with Spinach, Kale, Lettuce, Radish, Pears, Strawberries, Walnuts, Sunflower Seeds, a little bit of Tuna Fish (2 oz each), and Vinegar.

Snack:  Nuts and Seeds

Dinner:  Left overs.  Aaron ate the remaining salad and nuts and seeds. I ate the remaining fruit salad, nuts and seeds, juice, and some steamed broccoli.

Everything tasted really good.  We do miss the processed foods, the oils, and salt, and eating more animal based foods but we feel pretty good so far.  I will admit my energy has been a bit low today but we'll see where it is in a week. We are hoping to healthy results :)

Amelia is of course eating differently.  Unhappy toddler = unhappy home so while she is eating what we eat she also enjoyed yogurt, cheese, ice cream, chips, and chicken.

Does anyone else have an ongoing list of questions for Heavenly Father?  I Do.  Well today I was thinking when I meet him I want to know why the yummiest foods are so bad for us.  I also hope Big Macs grow on trees and are healthy in Heaven.    I pray I don't come within 20 feet of cheeseburger for the next few months while I try so hard to enjoy a more plant based diet.
